How distance is calculated
Each leg uses the haversine formula to calculate the shortest path over a spherical Earth with a mean radius of 6,371 km. Multi-stop totals are the sum of those legs. This is useful for comparing the scale of journeys, but it is not a road, rail, or walking distance.
